School trip cost

A school is organising a trip. There are 96 pupils going, and each coach can hold 28 pupils. If each coach costs £150 to hire, what is the total cost of hiring the coaches needed?

Comments

  1. Step 1: Work out how many coaches are needed.

    96 ÷ 28 = 3 remainder 12

3 coaches would only hold 84 pupils, which isn't enough for all 96 — so we round up.

    Coaches needed = 4

Step 2: Multiply the number of coaches by the cost per coach.

    4 × £150 = £600

    Total cost = £600
