The Number Puzzle

A number is multiplied by 4, then 7 is added.
The result is the same as when 3 times the number is increased by 19.

What is the number?

    Let the number be x.

    4x + 7 = 3x + 19

    Subtract 3x from both sides:

    x + 7 = 19

    Subtract 7 from both sides:

    x = 12

    Answer:
    12
