    Let the number be x.

    According to the question:

    Increased by 3, then multiplied by 4: 4(x + 3)

    Multiplied by 2, then increased by 28: 2x + 28

    Set the expressions equal:
    4(x + 3) = 2x + 28

    Expand the left side:
    4x + 12 = 2x + 28

    Now solve:
    4x - 2x = 28 - 12
    2x = 16
    x = 8
