How many slices?

A baker made a large chocolate cake and cut it into 24 equal slices. She sold 1/3 of the cake in the morning and 3/8 of the remaining slices in the afternoon. How many slices of cake are left at the end of the day?

Comments

  1. 1/3 of 24 is 8, meaning we have 24 - 8 = 16 slices left. Then, she sold 3/8 of the remaining slices in the afternoon. If we have 16 remaining slices, then we must find out what 3/8 of 16 is. This is 6, which means she sold 6 of the 16 slices and therefore ended up with 10 slices
