    Let the original number be x.
    Multiply x by 3: 3x.
    Add 8 to the result: 3x + 8.
    Set up the equation: 3x + 8 = 35.
    Subtract 8 from both sides: 3x = 27.
    Divide by 3: x = 9.
    So, the original number is 9.
