2(3x + 5) - (x - 4)

    Step 1: Distribute the 2 to the terms inside the first set of parentheses:
    6x + 10 - (x - 4)

    Step 2: Distribute the negative sign to the terms inside the second set of parentheses:
    6x + 10 - x + 4

    Step 3: Combine like terms (terms with the same variable and exponent):
    (6x - x) + (10 + 4)
    5x + 14

    So, the simplified expression is: 5x + 14
