Point of Intersection

Find the coordinates of the point of intersection of the following two linear equations:

y = 3x + 2

y = -2x + 6

Comments

  1. For them to intersect, they have to be equal, so we can simply just say:
    3x+2 = -2x+6
    5x+2=6
    5x=4
    x=4/5

    4/5 is the x coordinate so to find the y coordinate we need to substitute 4/5 into one of the equations. Lets use the first equation.
    y = 4/5 * 3 + 2
    y = 2.4 + 2 = 4.4

    From this, we get the coordinates (0.8, 4.4)
