The average of a set of numbers is worked out by adding the numbers together and then dividing by the number of numbers. The average number of runs scored by a cricket player in a cricket team in an innings is 17. What was the total number of runs scored by all eleven players?

    For this we need to do 17 * 11 because there are eleven people. This would give us our total runs scored as:
    187
