  1. The average of 5 and 9 is 7 so the first gap is a 7. Next we need to find the number that when having an average with seven creates a 9. This is 11 because it is 2 above 9 and 7 is 2 below 9. If we do this again with different numbers, we get the average as 13.

    Now we have our answer:
    5 7 9 11 13
