Building Walls

It takes 2 men 3 days to build a wall. To answer these questions, assume that all men work at the same rate all the time and take no breaks! You may use fractions, where necessary.

a) How long would it take one man to build the wall?

b) How long would it take one man to build 6 such walls?

c) How long would it take 3 men to build 6 such walls?

Comments

  1. a) Using just logic, if it takes two men 3 days to build the wall, then it would take 1 man 6 days to build a wall.

    b) to build six walls with the same man, it would have to be six times longer than the one wall. This would be 6 days * 6 walls = 6 * 6 = 36.

    c) Three men to build the six walls would take 3 times less because you have more people helping. 36/3 = 12 days.
