Bob thinks of a number. He doubles it and adds 6. He then divides it by 2. The answer is 8. What was his original number?

    Here, we can create an equation:
    (2x + 6) / 2 = 8
    Now we can solve:
    x + 3 = 8
    x = 8 - 3
    x = 5
    We now have our answer. Five.
