Apples

Tim has three apples. The mean (average) weight of the three apples is 90 grams. When Tim eats the largest apple, the mean weight of the remaining two apples is just 70 grams. What was the weight of the largest apple?

Comments

  1. If the average weight of the three apples is 90 grams, then the total is 270 grams. Now because one of the apples got eaten, the mean weight is 70 grams. This means that the total weight now is 140 grams. If we now subtract 140 from 270 we get the weight of the largest apple. 130g.
