Word Problem
A bridge is built across a river. One quarter of the bridge is over the left bank of the river and one third of the bridge is over the right bank. The river is 120 m wide. How long is the bridge?

The area of the black region would be 80 if it was't for the overlap. Also, they have told us that the area for the black region is 37, so you do 80 - 37, which is 43. Now you know the overlap part is 43cm² so you can do the grey part now. For the full grey part without the overlap the area oof the grey part would be 108 because 12 * 9 = 108. But to find the real grey area, you need the overlap so you simply do 108 - 43 which is 65.
