Age Problems

Tom is three years older than George. 2 years ago, Tom was four times as old as George.
What is the age of Tom now?

Comments

  1. Tom = T George = G

    If Tom is 3 years older than George then:
    T = G + 3
    The Question Also says that 2 years ago, Tom was 4 times as old as George which means:
    T - 2 = 4(G - 2)
    Next you have to substitute the T = G + 3 in to the other equation so you would get:
    G + 3 - 2 = 4G - 8
    G + 1 = 4G - 8
    G = 4G - 9
    -3G = -9
    3G = 9
    G = 3
    If G is equal to 3 then Tom would be 5 since Tom is 2 years older than George.
