A bakery made a large batch of cupcakes. They sold
52 of them in the morning and 41 of the remaining cupcakes in the afternoon. If they had 180 cupcakes left at the end of the day, how many cupcakes did they make originally?
Let's say the total number of cupcakes made originally is X.
ReplyDeleteAfter selling 2/5 of them in the morning, 3/5 of X remains.
Then, 1/4 of the remaining cupcakes are sold in the afternoon, leaving 3/4 of the remaining 3/5 of X.
The equation is: 3/4 * 3/5 * X = 180.
Solving for X, we multiply 180 by the inverse of 3/4 * 3/5, which is 20/9.
After calculating, X equals 400.
So, the bakery originally made 400 cupcakes.
