Lockdown Chocolates

During lockdown, George ate 3/20 of all the chocolates and then another 1.2kg. Bob ate 3/5 of the chocolates and the remaining 0.3 kg. What is the total weight they ate?

Comments

  1. First, w can set up an equation.
    Let x be the total weight of chocolates:
    x - (3x/20 + 1.2) - (3x/5 + 0.3) = 0
    x - 3x/20 - 1.2 - 3x/5 - 0.3 = 0
    x - (3x/20 + 1.2 + 3x/5 + 0.3) = 0
    x - (3x/4 + 1.5) = 0
    x - 3x/4 - 1.5 = 0
    x/4 - 1.5 = 0
    x/4 = 1.5
    x = 6.

    This gives us 6kg for the total amount of chocolates
